Thunder head to San Antonio for Christmas

The Oklahoma Thunder have started to slowly get healthy as Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant are now back in the fold. And it’s just in the nick of time as the Thunder prepare for a big Christmas Day meeting with San Antonio.

The Thunder have a lot of ground to make up and making a statement against the Spurs on the Christmas Day national stage would be a good time to make it. There is no question the Thunder have had one of the toughest starts to an NBA Season in terms of injures and significant minutes lost in NBA History. But there’s still plenty of ball to play.

For fans looking to head to San Antonio for Christmas Day, tickets currently available on the secondary market have an average price of $218. The cheapest tickets available start at just $43, however, so a ticket to the game will be cheaper than most tech gifts this holiday season.

San Antonio hotels have rates beginning at just $69, according to data from Hipmunk.com. In addition, Amtrak and flights to San Antonio start at just $152 on Hipmunk, so you could theoretically get an entire travel accommodations and a ticket to the game for less than $275.

This will be the first of three meetings between the Spurs and Thunder and will be a good test for OKC to see if they have the stuff to make the long climb back. This promises to be perhaps the most entertaining match-up of the Christmas Day schedule. The Spurs continue to remain one of the standards of excellence in the Western Conference and are always in the hunt to be in the NBA Finals. This season they once again look to be in that mix of the NBA elite.

The Thunder, when healthy, can be considered in that same class but injuries have made their 2014-15 season much more of a challenge just to have a chance to be in that mix to win the Western Conference. Once Kevin Durant last year’s most valuable player returns to form, it will change everything for the Thunder. And with a few games under his belt before December 25th, hopefully he will be in top form.

It should add to what will already be an exciting match-up and rivalry with Tim Duncan and the Spurs. Call it the NBA’s version of the red river rivalry in college football. Two great teams playing to stake claim at being the best of the West in the NBA.
