Today is Day 1 of the US Open at Oakmont. There have been a lot of articles about NBC’s Johnny Miller who shot a 63 at Oakmont when the US Open was there in 1973. But time to look at the links for today and there are a lot of them.

Already, the networks of NBC Universal carried the first shot of the US Open (USA, CNBC, MSNBC, Bravo and SciFi Channel) at 8 a.m. ET today. ESPN then picks up coverage at 10 a.m., giving way to NBC at 3 p.m., going back to the Worldwide Leader at 5 p.m. Both DirecTV and Dish Network have multiple channels devoted to the golf today and tomorrow. Tom Hoffarth of the Los Angeles Daily News has a preview. Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune says NBC’s Johnny Miller and CBS’ Nick Faldo have a lot to offer their viewers. Chris Zelkovich of the Toronto Star writes that Miller doesn’t make friends on the PGA Tour because of his honesty. William Houston of the Toronto Globe and Mail talks about TSN’s streaming of the US Open in Canada. Chuck Curti of the Beaver County Times looks at the international media contingent covering the golf at Oakmont.

Christine Brennan of USA Today explores the reasons behind the low ratings of the NBA Finals. From New York Newsday, Ken Berger says the country is not watching because the San Antonio-Cleveland matchup is not attractive. Carl Steward of the Almeda Times-Star (CA) says the low ratings are just desserts for NBA Commissioner David Stern. The Sports Media Watch blog says Game 3 is the 5th lowest rated NBA Finals game since 1981. Richard Sandomir of the New York Times asks where have all the viewers gone for the NBA?

Andrew Neff of the Bangor Daily News reports a Portland all-sports radio station joins the UMaine Radio Network for football and hockey games.

A former sports anchor in Bozeman, Montana has found another gig as the play-by-play announcer of a local baseball team.

ESPN/ESPN2 will be airing the College World Series starting tomorrow.

Ken Hoffman of the Houston Chronicle catches up with Lisa Malosky who was co-host of American Gladiators in the show’s last two seasons. Thanks to ESPN Classic, American Gladiators has been seeing a revival.

A bunch of Regional Sports Networks will be carrying Canadian Football League games this summer.

MASN and Time Warner Cable are taking their carriage dispute to arbitration.

That might be it for today. If there are more links, I’ll have an update later. If not, the next post will be primetime viewing choices.
