Thursday Links – Gilbert Arenas Suspended Indefinitely, Andre Dawson Elected to Hall of Fame, Zetterberg and Cleary to Return vs. Kings, & Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight a No-Go

The Pistons may have lost their 11th straight game last night, but it’s Thursday. That means the weekend is here for college students everywhere and almost here for the fortunate souls holding a 9-to-5. So crack a beer or root beer, respectively, and enjoy your Thursday links.

Gilbert Arenas
  • Wings fans: breathe, and thank the dear Lord Baby Jesus for the good news. Henrik Zetterberg and Dan Cleary have been cleared to return to action tonight against the Los Angeles Kings. If anyone still believes the offense isn’t the problem, check out this tidbit from Khan(!): “Only the New York Islanders have scored fewer five-on-five goals (64) than the Red Wings (65).” Jimmah Howard will start in goal.
  • For those looking forward to a Manny Pacquiao/Floyd Mayweather title fight, don’t get your hopes up. The announcement came late last night from ESPN. I, for one, am disappointed. This was easily one of the most anticipated fights of the new millenium (not including Rocky Balboa), and it’s over before it even got started. More on this later if I find anything.
  • Former Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis was hired as the new offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs yesterday. He didn’t lead Notre Dame to the promised land like fans expected, but Weis was one hell of an offensive coordinator in New England (a fellow by the name of Tom Brady agrees).
  • I don’t know why an American soccer players is doing a commercial for a Mexican sports betting game, but regardless, Landon Donovan’s Español es muy bueno.

Rob’s Highlight of the Day

I’m trying to go very light on soccer links and highlights until the World Cup, but I couldn’t resist posting this goal by American Clint Dempsey in last week’s English Premier League action. Even if you’re not a big-time soccer fan, you have to appreciate the American tradition of sticking it to those English bastards as often as possible. Save one for June 12th, Clint.
