HUGE sports night last night, but you already knew that because you were following me on Twitter.
- Last night marked the end of the NBA regular season. The Pistons squandered a big opportunity to improve their draft position with a 103-98 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Still, it’s nice to see the team fight back from a deficit to win a game and end the season on a good note. May the basketball gods look favorably upon us for this.
- Elsewhere in the NBA, there were still a few playoff matchups on the line. The Dallas Mavericks locked up the West’s 2 seed with a 96-89 win over the Spurs. The Chicago Bulls slid into the 8th spot in the East with a 98-89 win against the Bobcats. I’m pulling for a Nuggets–Hawks final.
- The NHL playoffs started last night too, and the Ottawa Senators made a lot of people happy with a 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Philadelphia Flyers beat the New Jersey Devils 2-1 in the other Eastern conference game last night. Nothing happened afterward though. Nothing at all.
- The NFL is the only major American sport not in season right now, but even they decided to get into the act yesterday. The Denver Broncos traded headcase WR Brandon Marshall to the Miami Dolphins (1900 comments?!) for two 2nd round picks. This is probably as win-win as you get in a trade in the NFL.
- I don’t know what to think about this yet (mostly because it isn’t all over ESPN) but Pop Crunch calls a divorce “imminent” between Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren. (Save yourself the trip to dictionary.com, imminent means “likely to happen.”) [via Busted Coverage]
- Right on the heels of Trey Ziegler’s CMU commitment yesterday, Ray McCallum Jr. also decided to stay home and attend Detroit Mercy. It’s Always Sunny in Detroit calls it a big day for Detroit, but in reality it’s a big day for Michigan as a whole. McCallum other choices were all out of state.
- Sparty and Friends isn’t a big fan of the shootout in the NHL, and rightfully so. The New York Rangers and Calgary Flames both would have made the playoffs this year if it weren’t for a skills competition deciding games.
