Hot Tub Time Machine is in theaters tomorrow. Yes, I think it looks awesome. No, you cannot convince me otherwise. Regardless, I’m still too broke to go see it. Check the links, yo.
- Tiger Woods will hold a news conference on April 5th, the Monday before the Masters
kickstees off at Augusta. A lot of fans and sportswriters are hoping that this will be Tiger’s version of the A-Rod tell-all press conference, but I don’t think it will go down like that. These writers/journalists/whatever will go after Tiger more aggressively than Jenni Carlson tore into Bobby Reid, and we all remember how that turned out. Note: the second link is to an article by Tom Friend, one of ESPN’s best, about the aftermath of that incident.
- ESPN’s Elizabeth Merrill wrote a great article yesterday about Ndamukong Suh and his life growing up. I’ve been praying for Suh’s name to be called second on draft day for some time now, and the article paints Suh as the type of guy that Detroit fans would really attach themselves to. Sam Bradford, you better keep impressing the Rams.
- It looks like Florida coach Urban Meyer isn’t doing too much to keep his blood pressure from rising. He snapped at a reporter from the Orlando Sentinel, the paper that blew WR Deonte Thompson’s “real quarterback” comment from earlier this week way out of proportion. It’s pretty obvious that Thompson’s comments weren’t meant to bash Tebow at all, but it didn’t stop the Sentinel from poking the bear that is Urban Meyer. Sounds like another paper we know…
- There was a pretty good conversation at Bless You Boys yesterday about the trade that sent Tigers P prospect Jair Jurrjens to Atlanta for SS Edgar Renteria, who we all know turned out to be a major bust in his lone year in Detroit. Big Al also draws back on another trade between the Tigers and Braves in the 1980s involving a young John Smoltz. Great stuff from Al and the BYB community.
- Speaking of Bless You Boys, former BYB headliner Ian Casselberry wrote a column for MLive about the change in perception over Tigers closer Jose Valverde. Fans have been impressed by his strong Spring Training efforts and have warmed up to the idea of the signing. I was never against the deal for Valverde, but hopefully he keeps up this pace and makes GM Dave Dombrowski look even better throughout the season. [via BYB]
- A D4L “what up” (or respectful tip of the cap, if that’s your thing) goes to Isaac (who you may recognize from Guyism) for this link: Arthur Ray Jr., a highly-touted offensive line recruit, will finally suit up for Michigan State this fall after a two year battle with bone tumors in his legs. Frequent readers know I’m not a big State fan, but I sincerely hope Ray succeeds at MSU after what he’s been through.
- Now that the Pistons are in full-fledged tank mode, fans are wondering who the ‘Stons are going to draft. I like the popular opinion at Detroit Bad Boys that DeMarcus Cousins and Cole Aldrich are the two best options for Detroit going forward. With Malice, Bloguin’s excellent L.A. Lakers blog, looks at the thought process behind each lottery team were they to get the #1 overall pick in this year’s draft. Great stuff all around.
- The guys over at Thunder Treats want to know: what is the best job in sports? And by best job, they mean the job where you do the least amount of work and get paid the most amount of money. An MLB closer is a good call by Zwilly, but I’d go with NFL punter any day of the week.
Does this look hard to you? (TWSS)
- If a college guy chugging six beers is impressive, this is downright unreal. Seriously, could you imagine your gammy pounding out a keg stand? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
- Sharapova’s Thigh has documented proof that Erin McNaught’s finger is doing well after it was partially severed in a motorcycle accident. She really had us worried there for a while. Of course, now I can’t ask her if she wants to borrow my “pointer” for anything.
Rob’s Highlight of the Day
Josh Smith is no stranger to highlight-reel dunks, but this one made the cut for another reason. Smith’s one-handed putback dunk wasn’t just sick, it gave the Hawks an 86-84 win over the Orlando Magic.
