Thursday Thoughts: DeHaven's protege...Steve Montador..and Eagles QB that I want..and more

-I have to wonder how long Bruce DeHaven plans on coaching special teams in the NFL. The Buffalo Bills will hire former Detroit Lions (I guess the Chiefs staff was pillaged enough) special teams coach Stan Kwan to be the assistant on special teams. DeHaven isn’t a spring chicken anymore and by hiring a protege, tells me that DeHaven may be training Kwan to be the Bills special teams coach in waiting-

-Steve Montador, whose arguably been the worst Sabres defensemen over the last month, needs to stop thinking he’s Paul Coffey. I know that Lindy Ruff’s system is always predicated on the defensemen pinching in, which unfortunately makes your defense more susceptible to odd man rushes, just isn’t Montador’s type of game. He, along with Craig Rivet need to get back to playing gritty, stay at home defense-

-You want to know what quarterback I would want starting for the Bills? Well, he plays for the Eagles and his name isn’t Vick or McNabb. It’s Kevin Kolb. I want a young quarterback that is just entering the peak of his career. I know he’s not the flashiest pick as your quarterback, but I feel the Bills need a guy that can grow with a team that is rebuilding. Kolb has been the heir apparent for McNabb for a number of years and has had the tutelage of Andy Reid at his disposal. I know it may take a lot to get him, but I would be willing to send over a 2nd rounder and maybe a player (Donte Whitner?) over to the Eagles. Whitner, whose as good as gone after next year with his contract expiring, could be a nice pick-up for the Eagles, who are desperately in need of a safety-

-I swear, the Bills better not be thinking of giving Trent Edwards another shot. To put it bluntly, the guy’s a bum! Not only has he proven that he can’t stay healthy, but his teammates pretty much lost all confidence in his play from last year. If this is suppose to be the start of a new regime for the Bills, then it’s time to do away with some of the draft mistakes that Marv Levy made-

-Look, I know I got a lot of heat for not being in love with the McNabb to the Bills talk. But here’s the bottom line: the Bills are soooooooo far away from really competing in the NFL, that McNabb would just delay the rebuilding process. This isn’t Brett Favre going to the loaded Minnesota Vikings. The Bills have so many needs on their team, that McNabb surrounded by this team’s talent, will only result in a .500 record at best. Plus, there’s no way he wants to come to Buffalo. The dude wants to win a championship, not freeze his butt off or plug a reality show-

-If there’s another player on the Bills team who will benefit from the switch to a 3-4 defense, it’s Poz. By playing next to another inside linebacker, means that Poz will only have to cover half of the football field. Of course, it would be nice if the Bills can find a nice inside linebacker in the draft to help Poz out. Sorry, but no Keith Ellison or Mr. Twitter (Kawika Mitchell) on my team-

-Memo to Aaron Schobel: You’re not Brett Favre. Make up your dam mind by March 1st if you’re retiring or not-
