The Tigers won tonight the only way they are going to win when a guy named Justin, Edwin, or Rick is NOT starting: The game was rained out with the Tigers ahead with a couple innings still left to play. This was the first game in the history of baseball in which not one, but two home runs were reviewed. The Tigers won 10-4 after the game was called following a second rain delay. Armando Galarraga gave up his usual slurry of runs in a little over 4 innings of work, including a three run bomb by Prince Fielder in the first inning.
Tomorrow we get a treat. Dontrelle Willis’ scheduled start was thankfully canned, and in his place Alfredo Figaro will make his first major league start. Figaro is from the Domincian Republic and listed as 24 years old, which means he’s probably around 32 or so. Nonetheless, he’s a relatively young guy who’s undoubtedly pumped about his first gig in the bigs.
So Figaro and the Tigers go up against Milwaukee in the second game of a 3 game series at the Copa tomorrow. And they have an unenviable task. The Brewers are throwing Dave Bush against the Tags. David is 6’2″ and he sports a beard. And any guy who has ever hooked up with a 40-something cougar, spent a few months camping with his girlfriend, or watched 70’s porn knows that the scariest thing in the world, the one thing no man ever wants to confront, the thing that haunts us in our nightmares, is a big, hairy Bush.
Now, Dave Bush is around 205 lbs, so this Bush is not that thick. And he’s racked up 26 walks and given up 17 homers already this season, so this Bush can be sloppy. But the Brew Crew have won 7 of the 10 games he has pitched, so this Bush can also be formidable. So I hope the Tigers pack their electric clippers, razors and some dental floss before they head over to Comerica tomorrow. They are clinging to a 2 game lead in the Central and can’t afford to be surprised by an overwhelming Bush.
