Miguel Cabrera hadn’t played since Sunday because he was witnessing the birth of his daughter, Isabella. On his first two swings back, he homered. Two at bats later, he homered. For all you figger filberts out there, that’s three home runs in one game, which collected all four of the Tigers runs. It was the first time in Miguel’s career that he’s homered three times in one game, and the first Tiger to do it since Dmitri Young did it on Opening Day in 2005.
The Tigers also wasted an adequate start from their fifth starter, Dontrelle Willis, who gave the Tigers more than enough opportunity to win by allowing just three runs in his 5.1 IP. Ryan Perry sucked again and the A’s scored a pair of lucky runs in the same inning. Andrew Bailey shut down the last three Tigers hitters after giving up a leadoff solo shot to Miguel. Detroit has three more cracks at these A’s(ses), so we’ll start getting more cynical if they don’t take care of business these next couple days.
