Time to admit it; Cadillac’s time has passed as starting tailback.

Just as when Cadillac came into the Bucs lineup, the Bucs had grown stagnant running the ball with Michael Pittman. Well Cadillac has become the next Pittman, even worse. While I will applaud the man from here to New Port Richy for what he was able to do with his two major knee surgeries and rehab sessions, it is quite obvious that Williams is not the guy to carry the workload for the Bucs this year. Cadillac Williams is a very likable guy, and the man has heart like no other. But this does not change the fact that the league has taken its toll on the man, and he has not had a long gain, nor has he been able to average 4.0 since his rookie year, and that was a long time ago in NFL years. Does that mean he has no place on the roster anymore? No of course not, a more rested Cadillac can be more effective as a spot runner, and despite it being a weakness of his over the years, pass receiving has turned into one of Williams strengths in 2010.

But so far in three games, which is a fair amount of work to be used as a measuring stick, Cadillac has only 139 total yards rushing on the year. But its taken him 55 carries to get that! LeGarrette Blount entered the game produced a 12 yard run on his first carry. Then he added 5 more yards after that. Blount finished with a 4.5 ypc average with his 27 yards on 6 carries. Expect more carries from Blount, he is a workhorse back the Bucs have not seen since the days no.40 patrolled the Bucs sideline.

Very nice effort by Blount, and while the same effort is there with Cadillac, the results simply arn’t anymore. Instead of beating themselves up over it, its time to make the move to Blount as the starter during the bye week, giving him the time to learn whatever part of the playbook he is not familiar with yet.
