An age-old axiom suggests that first impressions are lasting.
A few members of the 2008 Tennessee Titan draft class are heeding the aforementioned words of wisdom as they continue to stand out during the Titans’ organized team activities.
Chris Johnson continues to impress with his scintillating speed. According to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, during todays practices, Johnson demonstrated his punt-returning prowess by catching all of the balls punted to him with relative ease.
Much of the attention has been geared towards the role that Johnson will play in the running and receiving games, but his impact on special teams may be the place of his greatest impact as a rookie in 2008. Johnson has speed to burn, and that ability to accelerate should provide Vince Young and the offense with great field position on a consistent basis.
Lavelle Hawkins will always be remembered for being the player selected with the pick acquired from Dallas for the services of the embattled cornerback who shall remain nameless at this time.
Judging by his performance in OTAs, Hawkins may be on his way towards establishing a good rapport with Titan fans as a result of his playmaking abilities. Last month, Hawkins turned heads with his move on S Michael Griffin that resulted in a touchdown.
Hawkins continued his positive first impression with a solid performance today, displaying strong hands and the ability to catch the football in traffic.
Overshadowed by fellow Cal receiver Desean Jackson, who was drafted in the second round by the Philadelphia Eagles, Hawkins is taking full advantage of his opportunities as he attempts to earn playing time in the WR rotation next season.
Rookie defensive back Cary Williams also stood out today. Williams, looking to join Cortland Finnegan and Reynaldo Hill as yet another 7th round CB to overcome the odds and become a contributor in the Titans defensive backfield, forced Biren Ealy to fumble, providing the defense with a big play during todays practice.
Judging by early accounts, its so far so good for several of the Titans rookies.
