Titans 2013 training camp, 8/05

I was near the area where the receivers do their positional work for Monday afternoon's practice, which also afforded me a good vantage point to watch the rest of practice.  After the positional work, practice began with special teams, which is usually one of the most boring aspects of camp. Today's session was no different, as most of the period consisted of coverage on short and squib kicks, followed by rushing the punter / blocking for him.

Nothing of particular interest happened that I noticed. These were the players who were with the first teams on Monday.

Offense:
QB Jake Locker, RB Chris Johnson
WRs Kenny Britt, Nate Washington, Kendall Wright (slot)
TE Craig Stevens
LT Michael Roos, LG Andy Levitre, C Rob Turner, RG Chance Warmack, RT David Stewart

Defense (a lot of 3-3-5 today):
LDE Derrick Morgan, DT Jurrell Casey, RDE Keyunta Dawson
SLB Akeem Ayers, MLB Moise Fokou, WLB Zach Brown
LCB Jason McCourty, RCB Tommie Campbell, slot Coty Sensabaugh, SS Bernard Pollard, FS Michael Griffin

Here are some pics from Monday's practice for your enjoyment.

Kick coverage is always exciting. As Ken Stabler wrote in his autobiography Snake, training camp can make leaf raking look like an exciting occupation.

I was encouraged by Britt's ability to make sharp cuts around the trash drums. His ACL injury seems to be far behind him now. That's not an unfortunate drop by Britt in the above pic or in the next photo, featuring Justin Hunter. In this drill, the receivers intentionally drop the ball after each catch because another pass will arrive as they cut around the next drum.

Britt has just caught a pass from Jake Locker. In this session, four players at a time would run pass routes and each would get a ball thrown to them. Locker would fire first, followed by Ryan Fitzpatrick, Rusty Smith and QB coach Dave Ragone, who was a quarterback in college.

Bernard Pollard (#31) at the line of scrimmage. We may see a lot of that this season but the thought of leaving Michael Griffin as a single safety is not a comfortable feeling.

The Titans will play the Redskins Thursday night.  Their next practice will be Saturday afternoon. Only four practices remain open to the public and I plan to attend several of them.
