Titans Celebrate the 4th

Just a reminder to Titans fans that WGFX 104.5 The Zone is having an All-American Titans celebration today with rebroadcasts of selected games from Titans Radio. As I’m writing this, I’m listening to the Coliseum opener in 1999 with the Titans hosting the Cincinatti Bengals.
The 2002 Titans at Giants will be the featured game, beginning at 5:00 pm Central Time this evening. (Edit due to a change in what I thought was the schedule; see below.) Steve McNair wasn’t expected to play in the game due to injuries but led Tennessee to come back from a 12-point fourth quarter deficit to tie the game in regulation, then led them on a 60-yard overtime drive to set up the winning field goal by Joe Nedney. McNair passed for three touchdowns and 343 yards after he was barely able to walk off the team bus, according to Frank Wycheck, who is hosting today’s broadcast.
Fans can listen to some memorable Titans games on 104.5 FM or on their website. These are the other games which were included in the fan voting for the game which would be featured this evening.

I’m not sure which games will be re-aired today but will give updates throughout the day.

Update, 7:30 am: The second game being re-broadcast today is the first NFL regular season game ever played in the state of Tennessee, as the 1997 Tennessee Oilers hosted the Oakland Raiders in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis. Eddie George had a monster game that afternoon.
Update, 9:10 am: Game Three today is the January 2004 wildcard game at Baltimore. It was sweet payback for the previous playoff meeting with the Ratbirds and Eddie George showed his toughness against Ray Lewis, running over him despite a dislocated shoulder.
Update, 11:10 am: Now airing is the 2002 playoff game (played in January 2003) against the Steelers. Wycheck had a career game with 10 catches for 123 yards and a touchdown. Nedney’s apparent game-winning field goal in overtime was nullified by a timeout, then he missed his next try as he was hit by a Pittsburgh rusher, drawing a penalty. He succeeded on the next attempt but there were no fireworks left to celebrate the win. They had been used up on the field goal that didn’t count. Bill Cowher was irate after the game, claiming the personal foul on the second kick was an acting job by Nedney. It was comical watching him charge the field to confront the officials.
Update, 1:05 pm: This surprises me. The Titans-Giants 2002 game is now being aired, even though I thought it was selected by voters as their favorite and was supposed to be re-aired at 5:00 this evening. Oh well. Enjoy.
Two games will remain after this one. I’m hoping they will be two of these three games: the Music City Miracle and the 1999 playoff wins at Indianapolis and Jacksonville, three of my favorite Titans games.
Update, 3:11 pm: Indianapolis at Tennessee, 2006. Titans fans will remember this game for Vince Young leading another comeback victory and Rob Bironas’ 60-yard field goal with just seconds left on the clock.
Update, 5:08 pm: The Music City Miracle is the final game today. I must have misread the poll results on The Zone yesterday, because Wycheck just said this game was the leading vote getter. My apologies for the mixup.
