Titans close 2-14 season with 27-10 loss to Colts, will pick #2

I try to give every game the recap it deserves, even if it may feel like it doesn’t deserve much of a recap. So, today. The Titans lost to the Colts 27-10. The end.

Oh, sure, I could talk about how Charlie Whitehurst again showed why he’s a backup quarterback, like a poor man’s Ryan Fitzpatrick with a stronger arm and greater willingness to take sacks. Or a defense that couldn’t cover the tight end, whether the Colts were playing with their starting quarterback or their backup, aged ex-Titan Matt Hasselbeck. Or how the Titans don’t have a sustaining run game or pass catchers, outside of Delanie Walker, that can do anything in one-on-one coverage. Or… but you get the point, and besides you’ve seen plenty of the same in the games prior to this one.

So, a 2-14 record. With Tampa Bay blowing it, the Titans have earned the second overall pick in the 2015 draft. Tommy Smith reportedly said after the game GM Ruston Webster and head coach Ken Whisenhunt will be back, something his previous comments and the facts on the ground indicated was extremely likely to be the case. Hopefully the Titans will be able to coach the Senior Bowl, which would be a good opportunity to learn more about some potential picks. I wouldn’t be surprised by some assistant coaching changes (names to watch: holdovers from Mike Munchak, including particularly Shawn Jefferson and Nate Kaczor), but otherwise it should be an uneventful Black Monday at St. Thomas Sports Park.

Snap report tomorrow, then shifting into offseason content mode, beginning with the usual end-of-season awards.
