Titans-Giants inactives, gameday thread

The inactives are out for today’s game at LP Field between the Tennessee Titans and the New York Giants, and here they are:

NEW YORK GIANTS: OT Michael Brewer, G Eric Herman, LB Mark Herzlich, CB Jayron Hosley, RB Chris Ogbonnaya, LB Jacquian Williams

TENNESSEE TITANS: RB Shonn Greene, DL DaQuan Jones, OT Taylor Lewan, OT Michael Oher, DB Jemea Thomas, OLB Kamerion Wimbley, WR Kendall Wright

For the Titans, Wimbley was out, while Lewan, Oher, and Wright were all questionable. Zach Mettenberger plays despite being questionable, but the Titans keep all three quarterbacks up for the first time this season.

With Lewan and Oher out, Byron Stingily and Will Svitek are once again your starting tackles. Given that and that the Titans have three wide receivers up and those three are Kris Durham, Derek Hagan, and Nate Washington, good luck to whoever ends up taking snaps at quarterback. I’m kind of hoping it’ll be like the college all-star game Dan Reeves coached where they rotated among their three quarterbacks on almost every play. That would certainly increase the watchability factor for me of a game between two teams that have been struggling greatly of late.

I’ll be interested to see how much of a role Antonio Andrews plays. My preferred job for Shonn Greene on this team is either “lead back, getting the majority of the carries” or “left out” rather than the nebulous “occasional carry at random times” role he has held for most of the season. Do they insist on giving Bishop Sankey 15-plus carries for three and a half yards a pop, or are they willing to give Andrews some actual work, game situation be damned if need be?

For the Giants, the big question on the injury report was whether Rashad Jennings, questionable with an ankle injury, would play. He’s up, but reports from New York media have it that he’s likely to play a role on passing downs while Andre Williams gets most of the carries. That’s good news for the Titans if they’re interested in winning. Jennings has been a really solid three-down back and effective runner, while Williams is Trent Richardson minus Richardson’s ability in the passing game-a plodding straight-ahead runner who lacks a second gear and doesn’t run with the power you might expect.

The line for this game hovered around Even most of the time I was paying attention to it; at least at Pinnacle when I just checked, it’s now Giants -2.5. I recognize why it was where it was, but the current line now matches how I’ve felt about this game all week. The key to this game will be (a) whether Tennessee’s depleted receiving corps can get enough Random Deep Balls, and (b) how many passes Eli Manning throws the Titans have a chance to end up with that they do end up with. Jacksonville got a couple non-offensive scores to beat New York last week; the Titans will probably need at least one, or at least some doses of good field position, to get the win today. Ken Whisenhunt, give the Giants stickum, not that Odell Beckham needs it. Oh, and I don’t expect Jason McCourty to do nearly as well against Beckham as he did against Andre Johnson last week, if the Titans look to follow him. Just not nearly as good a fit for what he does best.

I’ll be yapping about the game on Twitter, so follow and yell at me there if you so desire. Recap post up after the game, snap report Monday, then maybe I’ll write about Sammie Hill during the week given Ray Horton’s comment in his weekly media session on Thursday that Hill was winning 85% of his matchups.
