Talk about a name from the past. The Titans have hired Lake Dawson as their new Director of Pro Personnel.
I recall watching Dawson play at Notre Dame, Kansas City and Indianapolis. Like so many guys, when his playing days were over he became a forgotten man, as if he had fallen off the face of the earth.
What I didn’t know was that for the last six years, he’s been with the Seattle Seahawks in various capacities, including scouting, and serving as their Assistant Director of Pro Personnel for the last two years.
Mike Reinfeldt worked with Dawson in Seattle and had the following comment.
“This will be our first move in an effort to grow our pro personnel department and Lake is the perfect person to start this process. I have firsthand knowledge of his ability as a talent evaluator and his growth as a front office employee at Seattle.
Here’s Dawson’s bio from the Seahawks’ website.
Dawson replaces Al Smith, whose contract was not renewed this year. From what I heard, Jeff Fisher wasn’t satisfied with Smith’s work as an advance scout for upcoming opponents. According to his bio, it’s something which Dawson did with the Seahawks,
Fisher hired former MTSU coach Andy McCollum, now coaching at NC State, to be his advance scout last year, leaving Smith behind to attend to other less important duties. I have not heard anything about why McCollum left the Titans for the Wolfpack.
