Titans-Steelers inactives, gameday thread

The inactives are out for Monday Night Football at LP Field between the Titans and the Steelers, and here they are.

PITTSBURGH STEELERS: G Chris Hubbard, QB Landry Jones, NT Steve McLendon, S Troy Polamalu, OLB Ryan Shazier, CB Ike Taylor, S Shamarko Thomas

TENNESSEE TITANS: RB Antonio Andrews, WR Kris Durham, CB Brandon Harris, DL DaQuan Jones, OT Will Svitek, TE Delanie Walker, QB Charlie Whitehurst

For the Steelers, the five notable inactives, McLendon, Polamalu, Shazier, Taylor, and Thomas, were all listed as Out on the Official Injury Report, while Hubbard is an extra offensive lineman and Jones is QB3. The big news is on the Tennessee half, as the Titans had five players listed as questionable. Sammie Hill, Dexter McCluster, Leon Washington, and Blidi Wreh-Wilson are all up, while Delanie Walker is down after apparently not clearing concussion protocol. Good news for the return game, as I was pretty unsure about Leon Washington, but bad news for the pass game.

With no Delanie, Brett Brackett, Chase Coffman, and Richard Gordon are the tight ends. Neither is as balanced between the run and the pass game as Walker. In watching the Ravens game, though, I liked the work Gordon did as an in-line blocker. At times, he controlled Terrell Suggs at the point of attack on the run, something I wouldn’t have expected. If their top priority is winning, I would think Gordon and a lot of two back sets, including more Shonn Greene than we’ve seen in recent weeks, would be in order. Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau has a formidable track record against rookie quarterbacks, and it’s more impressive than just “rookie quarterbacks.” Given the only consistency the Titans have shown in the passing game with any of the quarterbacks this year has been consistent struggles. Of course, whether the top priority is winning is a whole separate question.

I’ll be chiming in during the game on Twitter, so follow and yap at me there if you so desire. Recap post up after the game, snap report in the morning, and unless they get blown out I’ll see if I can’t manage to write a post about how the some aspects of the defense are at least sort of okay during the week. Really.
