Titans training camp 7-29 morning practice

Just a few tidbits from this morning’s practice on another hot day. It will be sweltering when the pads will be on this afternoon.
I got my closest look yet at Mike Williams in camp and he certainly does seem to be slimmed down from last year. He didn’t do much later in 11-on-11 team work.
The Titans worked on punt coverage first, but without a punter. I didn’t see Josh Miller at all. Craig Hentrich took the snaps but only simulated punting the ball while a JUGGS machine did the work. Chris Davis, Chris Carr and Brandon Jones took turns fielding the punts but the purpose of the period was for the coverage players to maintain lane discipline while the blockers on the return team worked on preventing them from that.
The offense then did some walkthroughs before the team split into three groups — the o-line and d-line in their own separate groups for drills and the remainder of the team doing some 7-on-7 work. Barry Booker had Jim Washburn in his face after one screw-up. O-line and d-line drills were otherwise uneventful.
Jake Scott looked a little spindly-legged to me. It’s the first time I noticed that. It shouldn’t be a problem though.
The team reassembled for some 11-on-11 team work. Kerry Collins completed a long pass on a well-thrown ball to Brandon Jones on a post route. Eric King and Chris Carr had fairly decent coverage.
Chris Johnson showed his speed on several occasions, once on an off-tackle run for about 20 yards. Of course, KVB tried to punch the ball loose running down the play from behind, as he did a few times. Johnson also split out wide left on one play, forcing Calvin Lowry into single coverage. A mismatch, but the play went to the other side. Lowry had an interception earlier but I was too far away from the play to say much about it, other than it looked like he was in good position and the ball was thrown right to him.
Biren Ealy caught a long pass over Michael Griffin. Alge Crumpler caught a few over the middle.
Leroy Harris took some reps with the first team at center.
I got a brief scare when Jevon Kearse limped off after one play. A trainer examined him for a minute and Kearse then limped over to the offensive group rather than go across the field back to the defense. He took a knee for a few minutes and then returned to practice. It doesn’t appear to be serious but the fans were understandably concerned for a while.
Vince Fuller, Carr and King, who are all competing at the nickel back position, were on the second team defense with Fuller and Carr getting work at safety and King at right corner.
I’m still learning how to use my new camera and had a few problems with it this morning but hope to post a few photos soon.
