Titans vs. Packers: Keys to victory

Coming off of a statement win over the Colts, the Tennessee Titans will be looking to avoid a letdown performance this weekend against the Green Bay Packers.

At 7-0, the Titans are currently four games up on the rest of their division rivals in the race to the AFC South crown. After losing three in a row, the 4-3 Packers have won their last two games, including an impressive 34-14 victory over Indy.

Here are my keys to a Titan victory on Sunday.

More smash-mouth, please

For the third consecutive week, the Titans will be squaring off against one of the NFL’s poorest run defenses. The Packers are the not-so-proud owners of the league’s 25th ranked ground-stopping attack(141.9 yards per game).

Perhaps inspired by the Titans’ Herculean performance against Kansas City, Indianapolis fared much better in their attempts to stop the LenDale White/Chris Johnson combo by stacking eight men in the box on a recurring basis.

Smash-mouth football is the staple of the Titans’ offensive gameplan, so expect to see more than a fair share of Smash and Dash against the Pack.

Beware of the opportunistic Packer secondary

On Sunday, Kerry Collins will have his hands full as he faces a Packer secondary known for its ability to intercept opposing signal-callers’ passes.

The Packers currently lead the league in interceptions (13). Remarkably, 5 of their 13 INT’s have been returned for touchdowns. Against Peyton Manning and the Colts, Green Bay scored on interception returns of 62 and 99 yards.

Avoiding costly interceptions will be high on Kerry Collins’ priority list this weekend.

Harass Aaron Rodgers

Green Bay’s young QB has done a great job in his effort to follow in the legendary footsteps of Brett Favre. Despite a nagging shoulder injury, Aaron Rodgers has put up an impressive 98.8 rating to go along with a solid 12-4 TD:INT ratio.

The ability of the Titans to put some pressure on Rodgers will go a long way towards securing the team’s eighth consecutive victory.
