This was not one of the best games the Titans have played this year. Still, they found a way to beat a good team, which is one mark of a really good team.
The Titans gave up a lot of completions but many of them were on underneath stuff the defense was willing to give up. What was more disturbing to me was players who were out of position too often and had some missed tackles, which led to long gains for the Pack. Several DBs won’t be happy when they look at the game tapes.
Credit the front seven for limiting Green Bay to three field goals and just one touchdown. They made it a bend-but-don’t-break defense yesterday.
The Titans were forced to count on their depth on the d-line, and they performed pretty well. Dave Ball and Jacob Ford spent a lot of time on the field.
I was really upset with the offense, especially the playcalling, which means I didn’t like many of Dinger’s calls. I was also a little upset with Kerry Collins for not changing some of the plays. I don’t know why the Titans didn’t run the ball more often against the league’s 25th-ranked rush defense.
The passing game was not good. Collins was inconsistent and threw a couple of balls that should have been picked. Chris Johnson was the leading receiver. Seems like it happens every week. A tight end or back leads the team in receptions and/or receiving yards. Brandon Jones and Justin McCareins made a few good catches. Bo Scaife caught four balls. Justin Gage has disappeared. Why didn’t Collins throw more often to Alge Crumpler?
What was going on before the end of the half? Jeff Fisher let the clock run down instead of trying to gain a few more yards, then decided not to attempt a field goal.
The o-line finally wore down Green Bay’s d-line and started dominating them in the fourth quarter and then in overtime.
Game balls: Chris Johnson led the team in both rushing and receiving and is undoubtedly the most deserving player for the offense. I don’t believe anyone in the secondary should be considered since they nearly cost Tennessee the game. I’ll go with Stephen Tulloch, who had six tackles, a fumble recovery and a pass defensed. He also filled in at WLB when Keith Bulluck was injured. Rob Bironas was nearly perfect and is an easy choice for the special teams’ game ball.
Miscellaneous: The Titans did a pretty good job of honoring veterans at halftime. Veterans Day isn’t until next week, but next Sunday is an away game, in Chicago.
The giveaway yesterday was Titans team pictures. I noticed a vacant space between #26 and #29, indicating Chris Johnson was absent. I guess they were going to have him photoshopped into the picture but someone forgot to. Funny, they never forget to photoshop Bud Adams into the picture.
