My post at Pittsburgh Magazine this week discusses how much the Pirates’ final record means this year. The answer, of course, is “not at all” if they’re not going to finish in first place. I focus on the bright side of things; that a strong finish by the team’s young players would be a good sign. This post was written before the Astros’ series and the Dana Eveland incident, though, and the flip side of it is that a terrible finish by the young players would make them far worse than their final record indicates, as pointed out below.
