Now that the Rams are officially headed for LA, a lot of attention has been turned on the two sports teams left in St. Louis. Specifically, this attention has been placed on Blues owner Tom Stillman who on the surface appears to carry all the traits you’d want in a local owner. The other topic is about how the Rams leaving may actually benefit the Cardinals and Blues. Stillman doesn’t believe that’s the case.
Stillman specifically mentioned that the Rams leaving isn’t good for St. Louis or the Blues, via FOX 2:
“A lot of people like to say this is going to be good for the Blues. But that’s not how we see it. We’re here in St. Louis for the long term. If something is not good for St. Louis in the long term, it’s not good for us.”
He also balked at the idea that St. Louis is dying or isn’t able to support three sports:
“I don’t get it. I don’t want to be anywhere else. I don’t care how big the market or all the money that’s waiting. This is where we want to be. This is a great market…we are St. Louis.”
If you’re rolling your eyes at Stillman’s comments, remember that he has actually put his money where his mouth is. When the Blues’ future seemed in doubt, Stillman and his group stepped in and not only kept the team in St. Louis, they invested a significant amount of money into the roster. Additional funds may be sunk into renovations at the Scottrade Center in the near future. While other owners, including Stan Kroenke, have issued similar statements about their teams, Stillman is a visible and respectable owner Blues fans are lucky to have.
