TOMA TIME

In Brian Kelly’s Sunday teleconference, he speculated on an obvious situation:

#NotreDame senior running back Jonas Gray has not had MRI, but coach Brian Kelly called it a significant knee injury. Out for season.Sun Nov 20 19:09:17 via web

It’s heartbreaking to think about how Jonas Gray managed to rise up in his final year to become one of the best running backs that I have seen in a Golden helmet in many years; only to end his career on a brutal injury during the last home game of the season. I am so grateful to have seen what Gray has accomplished this season. Thank-you Jonas, and best wishes moving forward.

The injury to Gray also puts Notre Dame in a tough spot in respect to the depth chart at running back. Cierre Wood will most likely see most of the carries from here on out, but with only 2 true freshman in George Atkinson (a converted WR), and Cam McDaniel left on the depth chart, Kelly dropped this on us:

#NotreDame coach Brian Kelly is considering moving WR Theo Riddick back to running back, but no firm decision has been made.Sun Nov 20 19:15:14 via web

My vote is for Kelly to stop considering it, and make it happen. Roby Toma has been outstanding in the last two games while Riddick has been out with an injury. Toma looks much more natural at the slot, and he has displayed a knack for making the tough catch. If consistency counts for anything, then Roby Toma should be the starter in the slot for the remainder of this season.

Riddick was once a highly touted RB before Brian Kelly got to South Bend and turned him in to a slot receiver. Perhaps his best fit would be a return to his old position. At any rate, the fanbase has spoken, and they want more TOMA TIME!
