The Tony Romo Pipe Dream To The Rams Is Finally Over

Tony Romo has been the subject of intense speculation beginning last season when an injury in the pre-season cost him his job to Dak Prescott and it was clear the Cowboys were going to be moving on. The Cowboys first announced they’d be releasing Romo before the start of free agency in March but retracted it and decided to keep him on the roster hoping for a trade package.

The Houston Texans and Denver Broncos were seen as the most likely suitors for Romo seeing as how they had complete teams that needed a quarterback to get to the next level. There was talk that Les Snead would make a godfather type offer to him in an effort to make a high profile move aimed at solving the team’s offensive woes while Jared Goff developed.

Romo going to the Rams was always far-fetched by fans held out hope that the allure of playing in Los Angeles would be enough to entice a high profile player to join the team as had been the case with the Dodgers and Lakers over the course of their history.

It turns out that no team will have a chance at signing Tony Romo as the 37 year old quarterback announced that instead of looking for another team he would take his talents to CBS, replacing Phil Simms in the booth as Jim Nantz’s partner. CBS is said to have offered Romo a very lucrative offer to be on their lead broadcast team ensuring that in two years time the former Cowboy great will be calling the Super Bowl.

For the Rams, this is yet another dream scenario that got smacked back into reality. There was talk following Peyton Manning’s retirement that the Rams were looking to sign him to a one year deal as part of their effort to draw in fans during their first season back in Los Angeles.

These talks never amounted to anything more than wild speculation but there were fans that believed this was a possibility, after all Joe Namath finished his career in Los Angeles. Romo becoming a Ram was always a murky prospect at best, given better teams could’ve offered more money and his chances of winning a ring in LA were slim at best. Once again, fans will have to accept that their is no savior coming through that door and that this is officially Jared Goff’s team for better or for worse.
