Philadelphia 76ers guard Tony Wroten season could be in jeopardy as last week he was diagnosed with a partially torn ACL after he saw a specialist in Los Angeles. Wroten originally suffered the injury on Jan. 13 against the Atlanta Hawks; he left the game with a sprained knee.
Wroten is still deciding if he still wants to have surgery on the ACL as he said on Monday the team is still talking to doctors to see if surgery is needed.
“It’s not a guarantee 100 percent that you have to have surgery.” “But that’s obviously a decision I’m trying to go with. But like I said, it’s a tough decision. It’s an important decision I want to make. “I will continue to talk it over with the team and Hinkie and go on with the doctors.”
Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer notes that Wroten did not give a return date and it’s unlikely he will return this season.
Wroten was having the best year of his three-year NBA career thus far. This season, he was averaging 16.9 points, 5.2 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 29.8 minutes per game. He also started in 15 games while Michael Carter-Williams was recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
The Sixers are looking to replace Wroten’s production and ball-handling skills as they currently have Larry Drew II on the roster and interest in Gary Talton.
