Hog Heaven got a RSS message from 247Sports with the latest 2017 NFL Draft projection from CBS Sports. It’s a slide show, but not too annoying.
It’s way too early to project the 2017 Draft, but CBS implies that the Dallas Cowboys will beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 2107. (SBLI If you speak Latin.)
They show those two teams with the 32nd and the 31st pick.
The Washington Redskins will select Ohio State Free Safety Malik Hooker with the 23rd pick. The 23rd pick implies a 9 or 10-win season for our ‘Skins.
Just a week earlier (Nov. 22 2016), CBS Sports projected the Redskins with the 19th pick, implying a 6 or 7-win season. They projected FSU running back Dalvin Cook to be the Redskins’ choice.
Mock Drafts now are a fun, frivolous way to spend your time and their pixels. Nobody knows the draft order now. Teams haven’t run the Combine yet.
Hog Heaven intends to ignore every mock draft that slots players by team need. Fans fall for that every year.
Redskins GM Scot McCloughan said he drafts the best talent available at the moment regardless of team need. It’s the reason he gave for picking TCU receiver Josh Doctson in the first round even though the “Skins are loaded at wide receiver.
Building strength on strength! We like that.
The offseason is when every NFL GM becomes a lying liar who lies. It’s not in any team’s interest to give straight-forward answers. We’re OK with that.
So, we drink McCloughan’s Kool-Aid about talent over need, and we dismiss mock drafts in November as a frivolous exercise…that we’ll probably read anyway.
