With only five games remaining for the Timberwolves in the 2006-2007 season, there’s an outside chance that Minnesota fans may only have five more games to watch Kevin Garnett in a Wolves jersey. I’m not going to take the time right now to speculate or state my opinion on the subject matter. Ultimately, that decision is in the hands of Kevin McHale and The Big Ticket, himself. However, what I would like to do, just in case I really do have only five more games to root for my hero, is to recap some of my favorite KG moments. With five games left, the plan is to do a mini-countdown of these moments on each game day. Without further ado, here’s #5…

The Wolves, who had dropped 10 out of 13 games that March were facing the Midwest Division-leading Mavericks. Thanks to some inspired play by KG, Wally-World, and Chauncey Billups, the Wolves managed to claw their way to a 19-point lead with five minutes to play in the third quarter. The Mavericks’ Wang Zhizhi, ball faked Garnett and send him sprawling to the floor, which cracked his dome wide open. With The Big Ticket out of commision, the Mavs were able to rally, and it appeared the Timberwolves were on their way to an embarrasing 3-11 mark for the month.
Twelve stitches later, Garnett re-entered the game just in time to salvage the contest for his team. He went on a monster tear, scoring seven of the Timberwolves’ final nine points en route to a 113-111 victory. This game is just one example of Garnett’s warrior heart and his incredible will to win. People like to call KG soft. They like to question his big-shot ability. But that’s only because they forget the night’s like March 29th, 2001 where Garnett put his champion’s heart on full display and willed his team to victory when they needed it most.
