5.) Terence Newman – CB

Terrance was signed as a temporary step-in while the rookie cornerback transitioned to the NFL. Newman has turned out to not only be a solid starter for the Vikings, but one of the most reliable tacklers and best defensive backs on the team. He also has stepped in and played safety when needed.

4.) Andrew Sendejo – S

Andrew finally got his chance this season, starting at safety opposite of Harrison Smith. Sendejo, a career back-up for the Vikings, has stepped in this season as one of the team’s best tacklers. Andrew has totaled 57 combined tackles this season and 2 passes deflected.

2.) Rhett Ellison – TE

Rhett Ellison is a great example of a true role player, splitting reps in the backfield as a fullback and in-line as a tight end. The former USC Trojan is a steady blocker with some upside as a receiver, and caught 19 of his 24 targets last year for 208 yards.

1.) Joe Berger – Center

When center John Sullivan went down in the preseason, there was a ton of concern about the offensive line for the Vikings. To steady the line, Joe Berger stepped in to replace Sully.

According to PFF’s rankings, Joe Berger has been the most underrated player in the NFL this season. Berger is tied with Dallas Pro Bowl center Travis Frederick for the top spot among NFL centers. Through the first 13 games, Berger has allowed just one sack and 12 total pressures.
