Top three safeties all hurt

At some point, you just run out of options

That’s how it is when a team loses three of its top four players at a position. In Antoine Bethea, Bob Sanders and Bullitt, the Colts might have had the best trio of safeties in the league. Sanders is out with a biceps injury probably until December, if he returns at all. Bullitt, like Jamie Silva (knee), is on injured reserve, and Bethea didn’t practice Wednesday because of a sore hamstring.

Francisco has 11 starts in six NFL seasons. Morgan has started twice in three years. He expects to be the choice, but Caldwell gave him no edge despite Morgan’s two seasons with Kansas City and the fact he came in for Bullitt last Sunday. Newton, like King, is an undrafted rookie.
