Tori Gurley, South Carolina’s redshirt sophomore receiver, decided to go with his dream of playing NFL ball.
We here at LOHD wish him the best in the future but we feel it will pane out to be a bad move. Gurley caught 44 passes for 465 yards and four touchdowns this season for the Gamecocks. In his freshman year, Gurley caught 21 passes for 440 yards. Those are not “eye popping stats” but any regard. Tori could really have used one more season (if not two) but we understand why he made the choice.
Tori is 23 years old, in a offense that is centered around Alshon Jeffery and Marcus Lattimore. Not to mention the other wide outs. He is not a focal point given his physical tools. Tori is a big guy and has good hands. His biggest knock is he is not a speed guy. I hope he can impress at least one team out of 32 NFL teams and make a roster. If we had to look into our crystal ball…Tori will not hear his name called but we are not experts. In fact, we hope we are wrong.
We will be pulling for Mr. Gurley come NFL Draft time and high five to ya for “no regrets.” You will be missed on the 2011 squad.
