Larry Brooks at the New York Post has John Tortorella’s response to what he told Carl Hagelin after he was ridiculously penalized for charging the goaltender during last night’s 1-0 to the Stars…
“The goalie charged him,” the coach said. “I told Hags to do it again, to go after the puck because that’s his job.
“It should have been a non-call. I think sometimes they think they have to call something.”
…great job by Torts making sure Hagelin stays aggressive and confident with his speed. Last thing the Rangers need is an awful call like that to put the shackles on their young, speedy winger.
Even the Dallas goaltender, Richard Bachman, agreed it was a bad call…
“No way do I blame him for hitting me. We both got to the puck at just about the same time, and that’s what happens.”
…i said it in my post game thoughts last night, that could have been one of the worst calls I have even seen. While the Rangers lost anyway, could you imagine Torts’ reaction if Dallas would have scored on the power play. Would have made for a great segment on 24/7.
