Trade Rumors: Erixon for Suter; Moving Wolski; & NHL Interest in Avery

With the trade deadline rapidly approaching (February 27th), the rumors have been coming fast and furious here’s the latest…

Christopher Botta at the New York Times says it would likely cost the Rangers a player from the current roster and either a high draft pick or a top prospect to obtain the Predators Ryan Suter. Bota feels Tim Erixon could be used to sweeten the pot.

The 27-year-old Suter has 5g, 23a this season and is in the final year of his contract that pays him $3.5 million this season.

…as I mentioned in the previous post, Erixon is, in my opinion, a pretty big part of the Rangers future and I’d hate to see him traded for essentially a rental.

Next, Steve Zipay at Newsday reports that the Rangers are currently trying to move Wojtek Wolski.

…Wolski’s $3.8 million salary this season makes him virtually impossible to move, but I also thought the same thing about Scott Gomez.

Finally, Larry Brooks at the New York Post notes that while there still continues to be NHL interest in Sean Avery, Glen Sather found no takers on an email he sent around the league late last week offering “The Grate One” on loan to another AHL club.

Brooks adds that there’s no upside for any club to do that, because Avery would have to clear re-entry to join the acquiring club in the NHL, with that club risking dead cap space on a claim.

…in my opinion Avery, a UFA this summer, needs to suck it up with the Whale and try to play his way into a contract or try-out for next season.

…for the record I still feel he could help the Rangers this season.
