Trade talk: Blues having serious discussions with Tampa Bay

OklahomaState

Here’s some fun trade speculation which should keep Blues fans busy. Recently, Tampa Bay Lighting GM Steve Yzerman attended a Blues game and was seen chatting with Blues GM Doug Armstrong. It was unclear what the focal point of Yzerman’s visit was, but soon after the Assistant GM for the Lightning (Pat Verbeek) took in Saturday’s game against Calgary.

As JR points out, it’s pretty noteworthy that the GM and Assistant GM of the Lightning have been taking in Blues games. It’s not too uncommon to have a GM watch a game, but to have both the GM and Assistant GM in a span of a few days seems to point out that something significant is coming.

Who could this involve? The fun name everyone will jump to is Steven Stamkos, but that’s not very realistic. After Stamkos reiterated that he wants to stay with the Lightning, it’d make more sense for the Lightning to move another piece or two in order to free up the salary they’ll need to pay Stamkos.

That doesn’t rule out Stamkos talk entirely, but it’d take quite the ransom to pull a trade off and there are plenty of questions as to how Stamkos would fit within the Blues’ current system.

There’s really no telling what a trade could involve, but it’s not far-fetched to see the Blues shake a few things up with a willing trade partner.
