There’s a tinge of sadness in the release of Frank Catalanotto, mainly because of quotes like these:
“Chances are this is the end of my career. I’m very happy to have had a chance to play for the Mets. I always wanted to play in New York.”
But it’s only a tinge of sadness. For at the end of the day, this deed needed to be done. Because after repeated attempts to dip Catalanotto into a fountain of youth which resulted in Frank almost drowning at least twice, the Mets had no choice but to cut bait with him after Monday’s game. Finally, finally … The Animal is coming to a major league ballpark near you. Yes, here comes Chris Carter, ladies and gents … in New York where he belongs. It’s good enough news to almost make me forget that this team can’t hit.
Almost.
