Train Wreck

Union lose one-nil giving Toronto their first points on the season. TFC scored off a sloppy goal scored by Danny “I Play for the Worse Team in the World” Kovermans. The game itself was a complete train wreck and one giant opportunity flushed away.

The Union had a shot to get back on track going against the worst team in the league. This was a game for the Union to go after it, to get some possession, work the ball, and have Pajoy and Adu rekindle the flame from the NYRB game. Players like Herdling, Marfan, Garfan, Lahoud, and Mwanga were suppose to show off their skill. This was an opportunity to pick up three points and look good while doing so.

This game was an absolute catastrophe and has revealed that the Union have a lack of heart. Collectively as a team, they showed very little fight. From the very start the Union made costly turnovers and an inability to complete the simplest of passes. They showed a lack of leadership and looked lost at times.

An inability to complete simple passes and to play with their heads up, at times it seemed like watching high school soccer. The Union played with a lack of fluidity and made no overlapping runs. On numerous occasions, Freddy Adu seemed to dribble directly into a TFC defender.

The loss keeps them in second to last place and four points behind the expansion side Montreal. The U return home to take on The Rochester Rhinos next in an open cup match on Tuesday. Then play a series of friendlies against Harrisburg and Reading in a series of friendlies. It is not until the 16th that the Union play their next league match against DC United.

In the post game interview, Union manager Nowak said “We had a couple of good games, we played the way we wanted to play, and today it was the complete opposite. We took two steps forward and three steps back.” A loss to a team that had zero points on the season feels a lot more than three steps back.
