Media reports claiming Indy Eleven has signed a new player

It is that time of year in the soccer calendar when the transfer window in Europe and North America is open and rumors swirl about players joining, signing, or being traded to new clubs. Earlier this week two media outlets, Nuestro Diario (Guatemala newspaper) and SB Nation: The Bent Musket (United States blog covering New England Revolution) have claimed Indy Eleven have signed Guatemalan international, Marvin Ceballos.  In early July, Ceballos was on trial with MLS side New England Revolution and was slated to sign for the club on July 3rd. The deal was reportedly worth $50,000 as it was posted on the MLS Players Union Salary list. However, the deal fell through and claims have been made that Ceballos signed with Indy Eleven this week.

Ceballos is 23 years old and has played with Guatemalan side Comunicaciones since 2009. He made his first team debut in 2012 were he logged 8 goals in 69 appearances. Ceballos represented Guatemala at the 2011 FIFA U20 World Cup were he scored the only goal his country recorded during the tournament. That loan goal the game winner against Croatia in Guatmala’s only win during group play. He has also represented Guatemala at the senior team level.

If Ceballos joins Indy Eleven, he will be the fifth player to sign with the team or to be loaned to the Eleven since late May. Signing Daniel Keller added depth to the defensive midfielder position while Dane Richards, Zach Steinberger, and Duke Lacroix have added versatility to the attack. These signings show Indy Eleven is constantly and consistently building a deep roster that is pushing for one of the three remaining playoff positions still up for grabs. If Ceballos signs, he will most likely play as a forward or as an attacking midfielder. If Dane Richards continues to play as a forward for the Eleven, then Ceballos would bring depth to the outside midfielder position along with Don Smart to back up Victor Pineda and Dragan Stojkov. One thing is for sure, Indy Eleven is building a reputation for having speed demons leading the attack. Fans of the ‘Boy’s in Blue’ club saw it last year with Jermaine Johnson, Jhulliam, Charlie Rugg, and Don Smart. This year we see Rugg and Smart again paired up with Brian Brown, Lacroix, and Richards.

In addition, the Ceballos rumors show Indy Eleven is creating a balanced roster by blending local and international talent. The list below breaks down Indy Eleven’s roster and which countries are represented.
