Travis Outlaw fined by NBA for flagrant foul against J.J. Redick

Travis Outlaw’s wallet is a bit lighter today because of a foul he committed in yesterday’s loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Rod Thorn, NBA president of basketball operations, announced this afternoon that the 29-year-old veteran has been fined $15,000 for “excessive and unnecessary contact” on the late game foul he executed on Clippers guard J.J. Redick.  Outlaw was assessed a flagrant foul 2 after attempting to prevent a breakaway layup from Redick at the 8:06 mark of the fourth quarter during the Kings’ 103-102 loss yesterday at the Staples Center.

“It was the right call,” Clippers coach Doc Rivers told reporters in Los Angeles yesterday of the officials’ assessment of the foul.  “I don‘t think Outlaw is a dirty player, despite his last name. But it was just that he was trying to stop the play, and he got  (Redick) around the neck. You have to throw the guy out, but he‘s not a dirty player.”
