Trey Burke says no disrespect intended toward Sacramento in Instagram post

After drawing the ire of Sacramento Kings fans on a popular social media service, Trey Burke says he didn’t mean to insult the city of Sacramento.  Yesterday, the 20-year-old point guard prospect caught flack for a caption attached to a photo he posted on Instagram.  You can see a screenshot of the post below.

Following his solo workout today before Sacramento Kings’ staff, including new coach Michael Malone, Burke explained what he meant when he used the emoticon.

“I think a lot of the fans that are on there, they saw the face that I put, but it wasn’t that I didn’t want to come to Sacramento,” Burke said to a group reporters at the Kings practice facility this afternoon. “It’s a tiresome process. I just flew from Phoenix to Sacramento today. I had a workout with Phoenix yesterday and I had a workout today and they’re both by myself, so it was never that I (didn’t want) to come to Sacramento.”

In his NBA pre-draft journey, Burke has worked out for three teams so far, including the Kings.  The next stop is New Orleans for the heralded point guard that led Michigan to this year’s national championship game against Louisville.

“This is my first time in Sacramento and I love it,” Burke added. “It’s a great environment and I can see myself playing here. But when they start, throwing the hate at you, that wasn’t fair to me because they didn’t really understand what I meant by it. But, it was never that I didn’t want to come here. It was just that, I’m wore out. I’ve still got more workouts to do.”

Burke’s advisors believe that he will be drafted somewhere between the No. 2 and 7 picks.  For that reason, the 20-year-old point guard told Sacramento media today he currently has no plans to audition with any teams past the seventh overall pick.
