One of the draft’s top point guards is coming to Sacramento to showcase his talents. The Sacramento Kings have announced that Trey Burke of Michigan will be in town tomorrow for a solo workout. In his latest mock draft for ESPN.com, Chad Ford actually projects Burke going to the Kings with the seventh overall pick.

Burke will be visiting a Kings team still in flux. Outgoing president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie is currently working on an interim basis until new owner Vivek Ranadivé hires his replacement. Reports surfaced over the last 24 hours about a few candidates, the biggest name being hall of famer Larry Bird. The 56-year-old Bird, who stepped down as the Indiana Pacers’ president of basketball operations last year, has reportedly had conversations with Ranadivé about coming to Sacramento.
According to Sam Amick of USA Today Sports, the Kings are also expected to interview David Morway, who most recently served as Bird’s general manager in Indiana. Morway is supposed to be meeting with Ranadivé and the Kings’ braintrust tomorrow.
Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee reported today that Denver Nuggets’ vice president of basketball operations Pete D’Alessandro is another candidate the Kings are considering for their front office. The team has formally requested permission to speak with D’Alessandro, who is also in the running to replace former Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri. Ujiri recently left Denver to join the Toronto Raptors.
D’Alessandro, Morway and Bird are on a shortlist of candidates that already includes Warriors assistant GM Travis Schlenk, Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace and former Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy. Schlenk, Wallace and Dunleavy have all interviewed for the opportunity.
On the heels of Bobby Jackson’s dismissal as Kings assistant coach, Jerry Reynolds announced that he would be leaving the Kings’ basketball operations staff. In anticipation of the new front office, Reynolds told multiple outlets that he’s voluntarily stepping down from his post as Kings director of player personnel. However, he hopes to continue working in his position as color commentator for Kings television broadcasts.
New coach Michael Malone has yet to officially name anyone to his coaching staff. But, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported earlier today that Malone has offered Ohio State’s Chris Jent an opportunity to be his lead assistant in Sacramento.
