TRIAN-OH CANADA! Jay Triano named Raptors Head Coach

Well, it’s official, Jay Triano has been awarded the Raptors’ head coaching job.  It comes at no surprise for most Raptors’ fans that he was named the head coach, as there have been rumblings that he was going to maintain the job.  Even though the Raptors had a disappointing season, Bryan Colangelo has the confidence in Jay to lead the team for next season and has signed him to a 3-year contract.  Triano had a 25-40 record in the 08-09 season after taking over the reigns after the Sam Mitchell firing.  Whether you think he’s deserving or not, Triano walked into a mess when he took over the job for Sam Mitchell.  This opportunity will give him a fresh start as the Raptors’ head coach, and hopefully BC can give Jay a roster that will actually work this season.

@ Mediocre Forever:  “So why keep Triano rather than bringing in another mediocre or even a star coach. Well, no matter how a good a coach, you still need a talented roster. What I’ve seem to noticed is that the star coach is what helps push teams to title contention and as the raps are far from contending, its more crucial to change the roster now, and bring in the star coaches to help push us over the edge in a few years. Which also explains the length of his contract.”
