The power play dance is a divisive topic between Blues fans. Some love it. Some hate it. Some don’t really care, but wish both sides would stop bickering. Like it or not, the power play dance has carried on throughout the last few seasons and no one really knows how or why it started. Plenty of rumors have floated around about its creation, but very few hold any water.
So, what do the Blues think about the dance?
STLToday.com asked Alexander Steen and Troy Brouwer and both responded favorably.
Steen’s answer was straight and to the point:
“If it means we score goals, I’m a fan of it.”
That’s the attitude you want from a player. Who cares what the fans are doing as long as the Blues are scoring goals.
Meanwhile, Brouwer’s answer was overwhelmingly positive:
“I think it’s funny. I guess you could say it’s a little Blues tradition here. It’s always fun to see those traditions carry on.”
Some fans will croak at the thought of the power play dance being considered a Blues tradition, but it has lasted a lot longer than many anticipated. At the very heart of the matter, some fans are upset others are dancing at a hockey game. It’s kind of ridiculous when you break it down. Sounds like those insults are coming from a pretty high horse. Who’s to say how fans should cheer and root on a team to victory?
Personally, I don’t partake in the power play dance, but I don’t see the harm. If fans want to get up, dance and cheer on the Blues then power to them. Keep the building loud and hopefully, with a little luck, there will be power play dances still happening in June.
