The Red Sox loss in game 162 of the 2011 season was an absolute disaster. The game and preceding fold will have long lasting ramifications for the franchise, players and fans. It will join other Sox failures like ‘78, ‘86, and ‘03 and will have it’s own Grady Little’s and Bucky f’n Dents; it looks like Carl Crawford is already the front-runner for getting the wrath of an angry Nation. The quick exit leaves many question marks and thoughts:
- Jonathan Papelbon, J.D. Drew, Marco Scutaro, Tek, Big Papi and Tim Wakefield may have played their last games in a Red Sox uniform.
- Don Orsillo may be in the TBS broadcasting booth next year and not with Remy on NESN
- The Red Sox with a team payroll of $161,762,475 finished behind a team with payroll of $41,053,571 after signing one of their top players in the offseason.
- Terry Francona and Theo Epstein may not be with the Red Sox next year.
It will be a long winter before hope springs eternal for Sox fans with the opening of a new spring training facility and the 100 year anniversary of Fenway next year. For now, true fans have to renew their baptismal vows into Red Sox Nation where heartache is as much a part rooting for the Olde Towne Team as dislike for the Yankees.
