East Carolina athletic director Jeff Compher made a move that shocked many less than two weeks ago when he announced the decision to relieve head coach Ruffin McNeill of his responsibilities, following the conclusion of a 5-7 (3-5 American) season amidst a year of rebuilding and transition.
