Back in June when Today’s U was beginning to roll out team previews for the 2015 college football season, I wrote that UCF was preparing to brace a rebuild after losing 12 starters — and other key members — from a team that won nine games the year prior.
Not far into the column did I write, “UCF is set to take another step back before it can regroup and once again become a Group of Five power.” Little did I know that the Knights were going to finish as one of the worst, if not the worst, teams in the country.
In fact, no one anticipated a complete collapse by a program that had won 31 games from 2012-14. But nearly 12 weeks into the season, and UCF (0-11, 0-7 American) is just one more loss away from its second winless campaign in school history (2004).
