Wow, what a day yesterday. The sports world went nuts with all the Opening Day baseball and a semi-important basketball game. Re-live all the action (and more!) with today’s links.
- Ok, so that “semi-important basketball game” was the NCAA national championship, and it was one hell of a game. Duke survived a half-court heave from Butler’s Gordon Heyward to win a 61-59 classic. Yes MSU fans, classic. Duke may have won, but most fans will remember what the Bulldogs accomplished this year.
- With the crowning of the NCAA champion also comes the awarding of the Cougar Madness championship. I won’t ruin the suspense, so make sure to check out Thunder Treats for the winner.
- It definitely wasn’t the biggest story of the day, but Tiger Woods had a press conference yesterday in which he denied that his suspicious doctor ever gave him HGH. Thankfully, the timing on this press conference was incredible and we won’t hear about this for the next three weeks. Well done, Augusta.
- Speaking of great timing for Tiger, Joslyn James went on Howard Stern’s show to spill more dirt on what her and Tiger’s affair was like. I’m finding some of her claims hard to believe, and I think what little credibility she had in the first place is almost gone. This smells like a last-ditch effort for attention and a payday out of Ms. James.
- Every year, part of the Opening Day celebration involves the inevitable First Pitch by a celebrity or important political figure. No honorary pitcher was more publicized than President Obama’s first pitch at the Phillies-Nationals game yesterday. The Commander in Chief sailed his pitch wide left, but you can’t hate on his allegiance to his beloved White Sox.
- The New York Yankees had the day off yesterday after their loss Sunday night in Boston, but Unathletic still was able to round up some great pictures of hot Yankees fans. I don’t know if I could ever date a girl who roots for the likes of A-Rod and Derek Jeter, so they’re up for grabs.
- Fans haven’t been happy with Charlie Villanueva’s performance this season, and Charlie V himself is ready for this season to be over. CV31 has been taking out his frustrations on that newfangled contraption we call Twitter. I really hope he bounces back next year, he could be a big boost to a young team.

- I don’t know what’s going to be better: Scarlett Johansson in Iron Man 2, or Penelope Cruz in the newest Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Either way, I’ve got some awesome movies to check out in the near future. (And for the record, Iron Man 2 is the better option. Downey, Jr. is kicking ass and taking names lately in Hollywood.)
- A couple quick hits: Total Pro Sports has some info on one golf course I definitely will not be playing in the near future. Babes Love Baseball is helping promote an opportunity to donate to charity, at least if you’re a Twins fan [via Thunder Treats]. Police reports now say that the gun Shaun Rogers was caught with in an airport had a bullet in the chamber. Braves rookie phenom Jason Heyward hit a bomb of a home run in his first Major League at bat.
Rob’s Highlight of the Day
Stephen Drew was aided by a fortuitous bounce, but still touched them all with an inside-the-park home run.
