Tuesday Links – Kalin Lucas’ Out with Torn Achilles, Erin Andrews on Dancing With the Stars, & the Lions Nab Mr. Irrelevant

For those of you who watched the Wings game, you know how awesome last night was. If you didn’t, check here for an update, but not until you read these links and finish your vegetables.

  • In the middle of our Wing-laden euphoria from last night, Erin Andrews put on a hell of a first performance in Dancing With the Stars. Thankfully, Gunaxin has the video for those who missed it. And don’t worry, there were no eliminations on this week’s show.
  • Red Wings fans weren’t the only ones celebrating in the streets of Detroit last night. The Lions were bestowed with the grand honor of the 255th overall pick of the NFL draft. Yes Feline Faithful, the Lions get to decide who will be 2010’s Mr. Irrelevant. They selected cornerback Ramzee Robinson with the same pick three years ago.
  • Old-time Tigers fans may appreciate this look back into yesteryear. Howard Megdal of the New York Times believes that Hank Greenberg was robbed of the chance to hit 60 home runs in 1938 because of his religion (Greenberg was Jewish). Big League Stew’s David Brown also weighs in on the matter. Unfortunately, my parents weren’t even close to existence at that point, so I can’t speak too closely on the matter. Still, it’s a very interesting read.
  • An interesting tidbit from Pistons beat writer Keith Langlois’ mailbag this week: GM Joe Dumars wishes he would have drafted Joe Johnson over Rodney White. Looking at their current situations (White is in China), I’d say most fans wish you could too Joe. Any other draft picks you’d like to have back?

  • I’m upset at myself for not mentioning this sooner, but Rob and Mike from The Production Line have been taking in-game pledges from readers throughout the month, and have raised a staggering $2500+ for the Herm to Hockeytown phenomenon. Congratulations to everyone that has participated for a job well done. This is seriously awesome. Also, make sure to check out a video from Herm himself about the upcoming game.

Rob’s Highlights of the Day

It was #2 on ESPN’s top plays, but #1 in your hearts: Valtteri Filppula’s toe-drag shot through Sergei Gonchar’s legs opened the scoring for the Wings.

I didn’t want to leave out Filppula’s goal, but how often do you see a goalie score in a soccer game, let alone from 70+ yards away? I thought so. Check it out. [via Dirty Tackle]
