Tuesday Top 5: How I Met Your Mother Episodes

We’re back for another edition of the Tuesday Top 5. We’re going to the well once again and using a TV show theme because quite bluntly, Netflix is awesome and without the Steelers or Pens in season, there isn’t a whole lot to do. The Pirates have been entertaining as of late, but Netflix also keeps us up on our pop culture references. So there’s that.

Disclaimer: I haven’t watched any of Season 7 because it’s not on Netflix yet. Once it is, this list may get edited. So for right now, this is the Top 5 How I Met Your Mother episodes from Seasons 1-6.

5. The Best Burger in New York

This episode has a celebrity guest appearance by Regis Pilbin playing himself. During the episode, Regis is shown hosting “Million Dollar Heads or Tails” and runs off the set because he believes the crew has found “the Best Burger in New York.”

4. Stuff

This is one of the deeper episodes that broaches the subject of “what do you do with your former girlfriend/boyfriends stuff once you’ve moved on and it’s left at your place?” However, the episode also features the subplot of the group going to see Lily in a play, which prompts Barney to write his own one-man play which is both awful and hilarious. The episode ends with Barney getting slapped by Marshall.

3. The Bracket

Barney is trying to figure out who is trying to sabotage him and decides the best way to determine who it is would be to put all the girls he has wronged into a bracket and determine who has the most reason to hate him. This episode also features this fantastic exchange in the bar –

Ted (to Barney): “Dude, do not pretend you’re not the kind of guy who keeps a list of all the girls he’s slept with.”
Marshall: “I have one. It’s called my marriage license.”

Boom.

2. Ted Mosby: Architect

This episode is built on the premise that Ted doesn’t think being an Architect is a “cool” enough profession to pick up women. Barney tells him he has to sell the delivery. Not that it matters, this is one of those times when Ted is dating Robin. The episode bounces between present and flashback as Robin thinks Ted is cheating on him and tries to track him down. As it turns out, all the stories about “Ted Mosby: Architect” were Barney posing as Ted and using his name.

1. The Slap Bet

Of course this is the best, and it’s going to take a phenomenal episode to top it. This episode was a turning point in the show. So much happened I don’t even know where to start. Marshall and Barney had a bet that Robin didn’t like malls because either she had gotten married in one or had filmed an adult movie in one. Turns out neither were right and the answer was much, much better.

And let’s not forget the reason we discovered Robin Sparkles in the first place…
