This has been a good week for the Boston Bruins, and they can attribute a lot of their success to Finnish netminder Tuukka Rask. The Bruins are one of the more pleasant surprises this year, sitting in second place in the Atlantic Division, right behind the Canadiens, who are also off to a hot start. With Carey Price back, people were expecting the Canadiens, but I’m not sure many people were expecting the Bruins or Tuukka Rask.

Rask went 4-0 in the past week, and allowed less than a goal a game. That’s a heavy workload handled quite admirably. It was a continuation of a season that has seen him go 10-1-0 while allowing only about a goal and a half a game. It’s safe to say that Rask has been carrying the Bruins.

This perhaps also explains the heavy workload last week. While the Bruins are 10-1 in games Rask starts, they are winless when he sits. The two goalies that have spelled him, Zane McIntyre and Anton Khodobin, haven’t been victims of bad luck, either. They are have save percentages in the mid 80% range, and are allowing 4 goals a game. Tuukka Rask won the First Star award for the week, but at this point, he might already be a candidate for the Hart.
