Some food and drink pairings just were made for each other. There’s the obvious, like milk and cookies, steak and red wine, seafood and white wine, etc. Then there’s beer—which, quite frankly, can sound great with just about anything—but when paired with bacon, creates a combination that no one wants to step away from.
Enter the Bacon and Beer Classic to provide this combination in different shapes, sizes and forms for entertaining nights in major venues across the United States. After previous travels through the home of the New York Mets, Citi Field, and the home of the Seattle Mariners, Safeco Field, the tasty event is heading to Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the home venue of the Minnesota Twins.
On Saturday, September 12, two days before the Vikings start their 2015 NFL campaign in San Francisco, foodies and beer drinkers will unite to participate in either of the two sessions at Target Field. After a Brunch Session from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., there is an Evening Session from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. VIP admission allows customers to enter an hour early before regular customers enter, which means the events would technically be starting at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
There are general admission tickets for $59 that include three hours of different bacon-inspired eats and drinks, including over 80 craft beers, 40 different bacon-inspired recipes from local restaurants that locals may have already indulged in while walking around the concourse sections at Target Field. The VIP Admission ticket costs $99, and as mentioned, gets customers in an hour earlier than the normal start time. Customers who purchase VIP tickets are also allowed to enter a VIP area on the warning track of the field and dugouts, and will have a slightly wider beer selection to choose from inside the walls of Minnesota’s beautiful ballpark.
A three-ounce souvenir cup will be handed to customers upon entrance of the stadium, which will serve as a personal taste tester for the brunch or evening session. There will be dishes where bacon is used as a flavoring mechanism, or as the star of the dish and everything else in between.
The success of these events has called for an expansion into more cities across the country. After the Beer and Bacon Classic hits the Twin Cities and goes to Soldier Field—the home of the Chicago Bears—in Chicago, the event has upcoming events planned in San Jose this year, as well as San Diego, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Miami and Atlanta in 2016.
