Two for Two; a draft day look at the last two drafts by each of our last 2 coaches
The last two years of each regime have contrasting results in draft performance.
If you want a way to meter how the Bucs are doing on their building plans, you only need look at what they are using for building material. Bruce Allen and Jon Gruden really did not supply any raw materials worth their weight, and it shows when you look at the 2007 and 2008 drafts. Compared to this years and last, The Raheem Morris/Mark Dominik draft picks are doing much better already, a complete reverse from what you would expect, as 3rd and 4th year players should be contributing more than 1st and second. 2007 We will not speak ill of the deceased, but Gaines Adams was not panning out for the Bucs and thus was traded. Arron Sears is no longer even with the team, a major disapointment, as is 4th round draft pick Tanard Jackson who will be gone for a year, and may have played his last days in a Pewter uniform. Back into the starting rotation, although by default, goes 2nd round pick Sabby Piscitelli and 3rd round pick Quincy Black is becoming one of the two great picks  from the Gruden era. Greg Peterson, Marcus Hamilton and Kenneth Darby are draft fodder. 2008 Two for Two; a draft day look at the last two drafts by each of our last 2 coachesAqib Talib is the second of Gruden/Allen’s prime picks, but thats it. They bombed bigtime on the reach for Dexter Jackson to be a punt/KO returner, and had one right under their nose in Clifton Smith who once brought in merely showcased his talents into a pro bowl bid! Jeremy Zuttah adds major depth to the offensive line, he can play anywhere on the  line. Another Starter has emerged from the lower rounds, Geno Hayes is becoming a side to side linebacker extraordinaire for the Bucs, having been drafted in the 6th round. Josh Johnson has tremendous value. Dre Moore and Michael Bennett did not pan out, and were still waiting for Jake Plummer to show up for camp! 2009 The Morris/Dominik regime kicked off with Josh Freeman, and he has clearly been the draft pick with the most potential for turning around a franchise since Warren Sapp/Derrick Brooks of ’95. Then they top that off by getting him a Tight End to throw to, in Kellen Winslow Jr and late round gem/steal Sammie Stroughter who from round 7 has become one of the starting wide receivers. Two for Two; a draft day look at the last two drafts by each of our last 2 coachesOn the defensive side of the ball, E.J. Biggers was a huge pickup also in round 7 as he looks to take over the corner position when Ronde retires. He is already the nickle corner. Third rounder Roy Miller alternates with 2010 draft pick Brian Price at the nose defensive tackle position. Speaking of 2010, no draft class in my memory has made such an immediate impact as this one. Gerald McCoy and Brian Price are instant starters at rounds 1 and 2, and 4th round Two for Two; a draft day look at the last two drafts by each of our last 2 coachespick WR Mike
Williams is being mentioned for rookie of the year as he has cemented himself as a starter.Fellow WR Arrelious Benn may see more action as the year goes by, but Myron Lewis is getting time in the backfield too. Cody Grimm is someone the Bucs are high on. So far, it is clear the draft rooms of Morris and Dominik have far exceeded that of the same period for Gruden and Allen. It’s no wonder the Bucs never started a youth movement before under the previous regime: it would have been a very quick movement! The Picks of 2009 and 2010 are already going a long way into establishing a solid foundation for this franchise.
