The Red Sox took the mound and battled both the Blue Jays and the rain and lost to both. Felix Doubront had a rough start and the bats were only able to make up so much damage.
Felix Doubront had a shaky first inning and ended up allowing 4 runs to score. Doubront gave up a leadoff single to Lawrie and then a 2 run HR to Rasmus. Sox 0-2. Bautista reached on an error from our new everyday 3rd baseman Middlebrooks and then Encarnacion doubled him in. Sox 0-3. The final out of the 1st inning was scored by what would have been a double play if Davis wasn’t so gosh darn speedy. Instead, it ended up being an RBI sac groundout. Sox 0-4. Doubront gave up another run in the 2nd with an RBI single to Rasmus.
The Sox bats did make up that damage and were able to tie the game by the 4th inning. David Ortiz got the Sox on the board early when he hit his 19th HR of the season. Sox 2-4. In the 3rd, Pedey scored a run when Salty reached on a throwing error. Sox 3-5. Gonzo hit an RBI single to score Ortiz. Sox 4-5. The Sox tied the game up in the 4th when Cody Ross double and then Kalish hit an RBI single to bring him home. Sox 5-5.
Unfortunately, the Sox weren’t able to keep it tied or take the lead. Doubront settled down and seemed to be getting it together until the Blue Jays got to him again in the 6th. With 2 outs, Dubi gave up a double to Francisco and then a 2 run HR to Arencibia. Sox 5-7. Doubront got the final out of the 6th inning and that would be it for him for the night. While he settled down after his shaky start, it wasn’t his best performance to say the least. Matt Albers came out for the 7th and before the rain delay made it even worse for the Sox. Albers gave up a sinel Rasmus and then a 2 run HR to Bautista. Sox 5-9. The game went into a rain delay with 2 outs in the 7th.
I was kind of hoping the powers that be would just call the game, however the rain cleare and the game resumed at 11:25pm. During the rain delay, I flipped over to the White Sox game and got to see Youk get his first hit with the fairer Sox. Anyways back to the Red Sox, Mortensen came out after the delay and pitched quite well. Mortensen finished off the 7th and then pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th inning. However, the Sox bats were only able to get one more run in the game. That run came in the 8th inning when David Ortiz hit his SECOND HR of the night. Papi hit the ball to dead center field for his 20th HR of the night. Sox 6-9. However, that would be all that the Sox could get going against the Blue Jays bullpen.
